Bob is a shareholder at Smith Alling, P.S. and focuses his practice on elder law/estate planning, business and real estate matters. He has been practicing law in the State of Washington since 1984 and currently serves as a Judge Pro Tempore in Fircrest and Fife, Washington. Bob has earned a solid reputation in the community for ethical and professional legal services. Bob’s friendly and engaging personality assists our clients when working through complex and difficult matters. Bob is a student of people and is driven by a passionate belief that the spirit of law is usually more important than the letter of the law.

Bob’s daily practice consists of working with clients in preparing contingency-plan documents, such as Wills, Trusts, Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives and other documents to determine the management and disposition of our clients’ affairs in the event of disability or death.

Bob also assists our clients in setting up limited liability companies, corporations, family partnerships, trusts, charitable vehicles, and other entities to suit our clients’ unique personalities and situations. In the event of a death, Bob assists our clients when acting as personal representatives or trustees in carrying out their legal duties, assembling the assets, meeting the tax and other legal requirements, and distributing the estate in accordance with the governing documents.

Bob is an active athlete, having completed many marathons and running races of all distances. When not running, bicycling, or practicing law, Bob enjoys spending time with his large family, reading, dining out, and watching the Seattle Mariners. Bob also owns and operates an aircraft cleaning company known as Aristocrat Air Services, Inc.

Bob is an active public speaker, speaking to many groups on estate planning and elder law issues. Bob has served as Business Adjunct Professor at Pierce College, an Advisory Board Member at Pierce College Business Department, is the former President of the Graham Business Association and Business Exchange, is a board member of the University Place Volunteer Center, and will soon become President of the Tacoma Estate Planning Council.
